Get away from the unforgiving Bahrain sun by stepping into one of the island’s five-star spas this summer. There’s no better way to cool off and relax than surrounded by luxury, enveloped in refreshing gel wraps and covered in seaweed while enjoying a Rainmist shower. Right? We’ve found six excellent treatments, at six stunning spas across the country, which are bound to cool you down in no time.

C+C Vitamin scrub
45 minutes, BD45

Treat yourself to this anti-oxidant body scrub at The Royal Spa in The Ritz. The treatment aims to relieve sun-damaged skin and prevent premature ageing. It eliminates impurities with gentle volcanic lava micro-particles which exfoliate rough skin. Meanwhile, the bitter orange and bamboo extracts hydrate and nourish, restoring luminosity to your skin.

Island Fever package
100 minutes, BD52

Book yourself in for a Spa InterContinental package at the Regency Health Club in central Manama where you can combine your favourite massage with a cooling wrap. One that particularly stands out is called ‘Island Fever’, which combines the traditional Malaysian Urut massage with a soothing yoghurt body wrap. Many people say the main cause of ill health and lethargy is because of trapped air in the blood stream and veins. That’s where the Urut massage comes in, as it aims to release this using herbal oil and rhythmic pressure to ease tension, aches and pains.

Oligomer Balneo and massage treatment
80 minutes, BD60

Experience the art of thalassotherapy at Sofitel Bahrain Zallaq Thalassa Sea & Spa. A range of this spa’s treatments harness the magical powers of thalassotherapy, or sea water, and one such package is the ‘Oligomer Pure Invigorating Energising Re-mineralising Balneo and massage treatment’. Soak in a jetted tub with a bath rich in re-mineralising marine ingredients which aim to reduce fatigue, relieve tired legs, promote healthy sleep, relax muscles and improve wellbeing. This is followed up with a full body massage to invigorate.

Rose and aloe sun cooler
30 minutes, BD30

This treatment, from brand new The Spa at Four Seasons, is especially designed for delicate skin that has become vulnerable to the sun. It uses a soothing rose and aloe vera gel wrap, which is designed to restore balance, strengthen the skin, promote health and correct imbalances caused by unhealthy sunburn. Relax, as the wrap is gently applied to your sensitive skin and then the body is cocooned, allowing the skin to fully absorb these healthful ingredients and let you rejuvenate and refresh.

The Rejuvenation package
180 minutes, BD185++

This treatment package from Al Areen Spa harnesses ancient healing powers for what they call a ‘complete new body experience’. Hot stones are placed on key energy points, while signature massage techniques are used along with warm oil designed to relax you and balance your mind-body. This is followed by a warm Rainmist shower to open the pores before they apply an Aroma Spa Ocean body wrap. Finally, the treatment is finished with a Fruit Active Glow facial.

Relax in the European-styled Rimal Spa at Mövenpick Bahrain Hotel where they import some fantastic, hand-harvested seaweed ingredients from Ireland for this treatment. The organic facial includes an exfoliation, signature massage using Voya face serum (which blends organic oils with antioxidant seaweed), followed by a maskerade gel mask to deeply hydrate and detoxify. It’s topped off with a complementary scalp massage.

Three to try: Hydrotherapy

A trio of island spas which use the magical powers of water

Al Areen Spa
Al Areen Palace & Spa uniquely boasts a Hydrothermal Garden, inspired by three of nature’s most powerful elements – heat, water and air. It consists of nine different hydrotherapy stations, as well as eight hydrothermal cabins including the Ice Igloo, Brine Cavern and Herbal Ceramic Sauna. Seven showers diffuse aromatherapy and there’s also a Vitality Pool.

La Fontaine Spa
For one of the few experiences of hydrotherapy under the stars, ladies can head to La Fontaine Centre of Contemporary Art & Spa. They have two special treatments to enjoy – the soothing body massage under rain mist or water jet therapy and cellulite treatment. Both cost BD25 for a one-hour pamper session.

Thalassa Sea & Spa
The spa at Sofitel Bahrain predominantly features thalassotherapy in its treatments. Thalassotherapy is the use of seawater in cosmetic and health treatments. At the spa you’ll find an indoor infinity pool with ocean views, a heated seawater pool, hydrotherapy circuit featuring various showers, and a freshwater pool. You may enjoy access to these with each booking or it might be featured as part of your overall treatment.
